David Loftus - Senior Consultant

David is a business leader, mentor and coach, experienced in deploying business improvement methodologies including lean six sigma.

In addition to a six-year role as General Manager SA, and a combined six-year role as Lean Implementation Manager and Special Projects / Six Sigma Project Manager for Boral Construction Materials, David has held roles in sales and marketing (state and national management level), account management and metallurgy, with experience in plastics, chemicals and mining industries.

David holds a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from University of Adelaide. He is Six Sigma Black Belt qualified, and holds a Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety.

David has previously served as the SA Chairman of Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia (CCAA).


Boral Construction Materials – General Manager SA

As General Manager, David oversaw Boral’s South Australian construction materials business which supplies quarry materials, concrete and asphalt to residential, commercial and civil construction markets, with $160 million sales revenue and over 250 employees and 100 contractors working at 25 operating sites.

During this time, led and completed a major restructure of the SA business, and achieved a 60% growth in EBIT from FY13 to FY18.

Boral Construction Materials – Lean Implementation Manager

South Australian representative on the National Lean Team, reporting to the General Manager – Lean and Innovation. This role included the establishment of the Boral Production System across all SA metropolitan sites, and included lean assessments on selected sites in all states and all Boral divisions to track the rate of business improvement and recognise best practice and benchmarks.

- Rolled out lean awareness training across the BCM SA business, including the basics of lean, and continuous improvement disciplines.
- Established 4 selected sites as ‘Lead sites’ to create early benchmarks in the business.
- Organised and facilitated regular training events in selected SA and interstate sites in all the lean categories (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Standardised Work, Error Proofing, Total Productive Maintenance, Quick Changeover and Pull Training), to train senior managers, area and site level managers and site staff.
- Ran policy deployment workshops and established Lean Action Plans for operational sites.
